I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter By Erica L. Sanchez

One thing I found shocking was when Ogla got hit by a semi-truck Amá had some words to say about it. “She was telling, the driver and god to go fuck their mother and themselves.” Amá doesn’t seem like the kind of person to flip out like that. My thought would be that she would be angry and sad but more in control of her actions. I understand why Amá acted like that being she lost a daughter, but this will always come as a shock to me that she said that about the driver and God was the thing that shook the most.

Social Media

Social media has a negative influence on most teens. Most teens have social media apps like Tiktok, Snapchat, Instagram and more. A lot of people can have their feelings hurt by strangers or even friends. For example, someone can post or share or tweet something on one social media platform. If it personally attacks or offends someone and they ask the poster to take it down, it might be to late. Another individual could have been sent this or seen it posted. Sometimes things like this go viral and blow up the internet. Which could lead to it being spread around to more people and other platforms. At this point it would be almost impossible to remove every single tweet or post about this incident. There is not a simple way for this to now go away for the individual that has been hurt and could follow them wherever they go, even if they move another student from their new school could find it on social media. There are more cons to social media then pros. Yes, you can chat with your friends, but those chats can ruin or have a big negative impact on some peoples lives. There is too much power that comes with the post or send button, just that one button can be someones nightmare.

Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes

Why are mosquitoes on earth, or why do they eat you up like a buffet? Well mosquitoes need nutrients and proteins that are in the blood to produce eggs. Mosquitoes do not just eat blood from humans they can also eat nectar, some juices of plants or other sweet substances. When mosquitoes are fully grown, they will mostly prey om birds, fish, bats, lizards and sometimes even caterpillars. When a mosquito bites one animal and the animal have a certain diesis can be transmitted from the mosquito to the next animal they prey on.

Mosquitoes can transmit a few different types of diseases like yellow fever, zika fever, malaria and filariasis. The good thing is you can reduce the diesis transition with mosquito repellent. Scientists are trying to reduce the population to help with the spreading of disease.

In overpopulated areas scientists are putting molecule neuropeptide Y dispensers. Another method they are trying is spraying larvicide. There is an insecticide in the larvicide. When they spray the mosquito eggs and larvae with larvicide it kills them and reduces the mosquito population. Something else that reduces the population is when other animals eat the larvae. Some animal diets consist of mosquito larvae. Such as fish frags bats and birds. Matter a fact, the only food mosquitoes do for the earth is being food to those few animals. These animals will eat the mosquito while in the larvae stage.

There are four stages of a mosquito. The first stage is the egg. When a female mosquito is laying the egg, they will lay them on top of the water and will lay on 30 to up to go 500 eggs. After the eggs are laid it takes about 2-3 days for the larvae to be released into the water. The larvae are the next stage. most of the little larvae will just eat Algae or other organic debris. Until the adult stage but sometimes a larvae will eat another one of its brother or sister larvae. When a mosquito reaches the next stage, which is the pupa stage, they will start to grow more body parts like legs and such. The pupa swallows air as it transitions to an adult as it helps them expand their abdomen and wings. The final stage is the adult. When the mosquito reaches adulthood, the females will mate a few hours after. The males will usually wait up to 24 hours to be willing to mate.

The mating proses will mostly be performed while in air. But it all depends on the spices of mosquitoes. Although there are not very many different species of mosquito. There are not very many types of mosquitoes.

Some types of mosquitoes are Anopleles, Aedes and Culex. They all have different life spans to.  For example, Anopleles can live rom 18 days to 7 weeks. Culexs can live 10 to 14 days. Something that they have in common is attributes of what they look like the only thing that makes them look different, all species, are the different genders. Males have rather bushier antennas then females. All mosquitoes have two sets of wings and long fragile legs. Their mouths are stretched out and certain mouthparts are pointy. One of the mouth parts is pointy because it helps penetrate through the skin of their host.

Mosquito females can detect a host 20 to 90 feet away. When looking for a host the mosquito looks for moisture, lactic acid and carbon dioxide. Also, body heat and body movement. The female mosquitoes more drawn toward a male human then female human.

Out of the millions of mosquitoes on earth I don’t like any off them, but they are important to the animals that they feed.

Christmas

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely adore Christmas. The traditions, the festivities, spending time with my lovely family plus lots more. A tradition my family had before covid-19 was on Christmas eve we would go to my mother’s great grandmas for dinner and all my mother’s family would be there as well. Going there for dinner was always a surprise most years the was always new kinds of food more kids to play with/ watch. It was easier for the adults to have the kids somewhere else than in their face, I was happy to volunteer. The best part was when we were all gathered around a table with delicious, yummy food while pappy said grace and then we would dig in. After dinner we would have dessert, something delicious again. And all the little ones would gather around the tree to open the presents, I never really cared what I got, I was just happy that everyone was together having fun. Now on Christmas day my brother would come screaming out of his room waking everyone up to open presents. His little smile is what kept me awake and for mom and dad it was coffee. He would get wrapping paper everywhere, but mom and dad never cared neither did I. After presents we would have a yummy breakfast and then around four o’clock, we would head to my dad’s moms, my grandma’s. We would once again eat very yummy food, open presents once again and laugh all night long. This year I got to give my family presents with all the money I saved last year, and it was the best Christmas ever I love seeing my family happy and Christmas is all about being in the mood to spread some cheer and have fun. What are some of your traditions that you and your family do?

Sorry this is a little late, I started this before the break

The Responsibility of Being a Sibling

Being a sibling of seven is complicating although I haven’t seen four of my siblings since I was the 4 or 5. But I still see and live with the 3. I live with my sister Emberly who’s only 6 months. I also live with my 6 year old brother Kai. My other sister is Alexis but where just step siblings and she moved in with her dad a while ago. Now for the responsibility of having siblings, it really depends on your parents and how you act / care for them. I love my siblings with all my and I try to spend as much time as possible. I don’t see them in the mornings before school because there sleeping. But when I get back, I usually play with one or both for a while. If I’m completely torn and have no energy left ill just hold Emberly or put her o my lap so that mom doesn’t have to. I don’t know about you but I like cooking for my family, so more siblings means more cooking. And my brother is so picky, so even when I cook for him like ill make him some rice and beans as well as help dad cook the chicken on the fire. And then he will just push it away and sit at the dinner table all night till bed. All that food and time for nothing. One of the things I when there a newborn you might have to change there dipper a few times. I personally hate changing dippers but I only have to do it like once or twice ever 2 to 3 months so its not the worst thing in the world so i’m okay with it. I could pretend that this is all the responsibility , but THERE IS SO MUCH MORE.

To be continued……..

My future robot, FREDRICK

Things my robot would help me with, one if I had a robot, he would help me cook but not cook for me because I love to cook so he would just do things like grab the sugar or other things I need. Or he would check to see if whatever I put in the oven was done because that’s one thing I hate doing. Another thing I hate doing is MAKING MY BED IN THE MORNING, every morning I wake up and sometimes if I feel like it, I will make my bed. Often, I won’t make my bed than mum gets mad, and I must make it anyways so my robot will make It every morning for me. One thing I despise doing is laundry so my robot would do the whole process, put in washer, put in dryer and then fold it as well as put it away. The last thing my robot would do is be my friend. Not like a best friend that would be sad but like a friend I could play tik tac toe with and I could tell him about my day. And I would obviously let him have a partner [girlfriend or boyfriend] duh I don’t want to be a bad robot owner. What kind of robot owner do you think I am? Now for how Fredrick would look. He would have shiny blond hair and would always be wearing a suit because he would be the fanciest person, sorry robot, you will ever meet. That is my robot, Fredrick.

Where I’m From

I am rocking a crying baby,

from puke dripping down

my new sweater!

I am from burning my finger

from swallowing with delight.

I am from getting angry

because the ink went

outside the lines.

I am from pleading through

the busiest streets,

from telling my dad

“That was my exercise for the week.”

 I am from sitting around

a cozy fire with loved ones,

from eating a crunchy and

good dessert.

I am from waking up

to the sound of

wonderful waves in the morning,

to shivering at night.

I am from waking up

at 5 o’clock in the morning,

from driving for 12 hours.

I am from “Quit hitting me”,

from “I’ll turn this car around”.

I am from “wait for me”,

from my legs getting cold

till I go all the way under.

I am from my eyes burning

because I got smoke in them,

from the sound of sizzling steak

I am from sweet hot apple,

from crunchy roasted oats

with cinnamon and nutmeg.

I am from mushy buttery potato,

from chewing a juicy

tender pieces of steak.

I am from sitting shriveled up in the cold waiting,

for the heater to turn my way while playing Pokémon go

with my father

I am from staying up so late,

to the point my eyes want to

fall off just because I was

watching people fall from ziplines

on my nanas tv.
